Built Right, From the First Course to the Last
The structure of a house or commercial building is not designed to last forever without attention. Over the years, freeze and thaw cycles, rain and settling break down mortar joints. Once they crack or crumble, water gets into the wall and bricks begin to loosen.
Tuckpointing, or repointing, removes the damaged mortar to a proper depth and replaces it with fresh mortar matched to your wall in color and strength. Done well, it stops water, locks the brick back together and renews the whole look of the building.
We also repair cracked and spalling brick, rebuild loose sections, and restore chimneys, steps, walls and storefronts. If you have mortar joints that are cracked, bricks that are loose, or large areas that need repointing, we will look at it, explain what is happening and tell you what it needs.

Mortar color, texture and strength are matched to the existing wall.
Repoint & Repair
Joints are cut out and refilled, and damaged brick is replaced.
Clean & Finish
Joints are tooled to match, the wall is cleaned and the site is tidied.

What is the difference between tuckpointing and repointing?
People use the words almost interchangeably. Both mean removing deteriorated mortar and replacing it. Traditional tuckpointing also adds a thin decorative line of contrasting mortar, but for most homes the job is simply repointing.
How do I know if my brick needs tuckpointing?
Look for cracked or crumbling mortar, gaps you can slide a key into, loose bricks, white powdery staining, or water getting in around the wall.
Will new mortar match my old mortar?
We test and mix mortar to match color, texture and strength. A match that is too hard can actually damage old brick, so strength matters as much as color.
How long does repointing last?
Properly done repointing is meant to last for decades, and it protects the bricks and the structure behind them.
